Inspired by the famous tastes of Sichuan cuisine, Bowl Bowl combines the best of China’s southwest with international flavours that will blow your mind and pop the buttons on your pants. Our cuisine is as colourful as our Smith Street address and caters to a range of tastes. From dumplings that will make you question the meaning of life, to street food that will transport you to the bustling markets of China – every dish is an experience we want you to savour.

Meet Kun Fu and his talented partner Shin – the brains behind Bowl Bowl. Also Bowl Bowl’s Head Chef, Fu has worked in kitchens since he was 17 and has a culinary story that’s as flavoursome as his food. It all started in Fu’s Chinese hometown of Chengdu, Sichuan. After completing his formal chef training (and achieving top honours thank you very much), he went on to study and master many of the eight famous Chinese cuisines. Living and working his way through the country, in time Fu’s appetite for developing his kitchen skills would see him leave the motherland. And just as well, because since coming to Australia, Fu has cooked at some of Melbourne’s most respected restaurants with world-renowned chefs. One such venue was the very chic Silks in the Crown Towers. Here, Fu worked under Michelin Star experienced chefs, according to the highest international standards(pressure cooking anyone?) Today, Fu brings the best of his skills and experience to his own kitchen. Free to unleash his inner-mad-scientist, his seasonal menu is fresh, experimental and personal. Combined with the passion of his business partner (and self-confessed food addict) Shin – Bowl Bowl provides the perfect place to make your own stories.

Try the Chef’s signature dumpling, a simple yet stupendous ensemble featuring pork, chives, ginger juice, rice wine, scallion, peanut, sesame, Sichuan pepper and an amazing chilli sauce – boiled, pan fried or steamed

Not your average fried rice. This signature Bowl Bowl dish features two types of rice, sumptuous whole prawns, plus fresh eggs and vegetables – you will taste the difference
Do-It-Yourself Crispy Duck Paper Rolls
Roll your own rice paper rolls starting with tender and succulent crispy skin duck, followed by strips of cucumber, chilli, salad and hoisin sauce – six rolling sheets come as standard, but you can ask for more
Four Season Bean Treat
It won’t be hard to eat these vegetables – our delicious green beans are deep fried and served with Chinese cabbage as well as a blend of secret spices

Crispy fried chicken strips in a sweet sauce basted with a garlic butter and honey source for a sweet zesty flavour
Baby lamb ribs "Tibetan Marination"
Finely chosen fresh baby lamb ribs, marinated in Tibetan cumin and gently steamed for over 8 hours – finished with light frying – tender with a crispy finish!

We do things differently at Bowl Bowl. Though our unique decisions and techniques may seem small on their own, they add up to an extra helping of deliciousness every time you visit. Take our tables for example. On every one you’ll find a vibrant range of international sauces from sweet chillies to savoury tomato – no miserable ‘one sauce fits all’ here. On the topic of choice, we’re pretty choosy when it comes to ingredients. MSG thrill seekers look elsewhere, we only use authentic ingredients, many of which we source locally from organic wholesalers. We also care about your dietary needs, so we’ve made sure to include vegetarian and gluten free options on our menu – including gluten free beer (seriously!)
